Belmont, N.C. (July 1, 2025) 鈥 海角社在线 is thrilled to announce its partnership with the Veterum Sapientia Institute (VSI) to enhance its commitment to the Catholic Intellectual Tradition. This collaboration will introduce two new majors in Latin and Greek, available to both traditional and Abbey Online students, along with accompanying minors.听

The new programs will be available, pending final approval from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), in the Fall 2025 semester, marking the beginning of an unparalleled partnership driving eager learners of all ages to classical education. This initiative reflects 海角社在线’s dedication to providing a robust academic framework that honors the rich heritage of the Catholic faith while fostering a deep understanding of classical languages.

鈥淎t 海角社在线, we strive to educate the whole student by harmonizing faith and reason,鈥 said Dr. Joseph Wysocki, the college鈥檚 provost. 鈥淥ffering degrees in these foundational languages will allow students to explore the words of both saints and scholars in greater depth, broadening their understanding of some of life鈥檚 greatest lessons and mysteries. The Veterum Sapientia Institute leads the renewal of Latin and Greek studies, advancing the vision articulated by Pope St. John XXIII in Veterum Sapientia. VSI is committed to teaching Latin and Greek as living languages, helping Catholics reclaim their cultural and spiritual heritage through immersive, high-quality language instruction.

鈥淲e are honored to partner with 海角社在线 in forming students through the wisdom of the Church鈥檚 ancient languages,鈥 said Christopher Owens, CEO of the Veterum Sapientia Institute. 鈥淥ffering immersive Latin and Greek instruction to both traditional and online students is a bold step in the renewal of classical education鈥攁nd we鈥檙e thrilled to do so alongside such a faithful and academically rigorous institution. At a time when there is a growing need for knowledgeable high school and college teachers in classical education, we鈥檙e excited to help fill that need by preparing the next generation of instructors.鈥

Students enrolled in the traditional undergraduate program will take foundational courses on campus with 海角社在线 faculty while completing upper-level classes alongside VSI cohorts of no more than 15 students, ensuring personalized attention. Adult online learners in the Abbey Online program will take all courses in a flexible, fully online format.

The Latin and Greek majors provide a foundation for a number of careers in fields such as philosophy, theology, education, history, law, medicine, and more. In addition to the majors, the adjoining minors will provide students with the flexibility to enhance their primary fields of study while gaining valuable insights into the classical roots of various disciplines. This initiative aligns with 海角社在线’s mission to cultivate a community of learners who are committed to academic excellence and the pursuit of truth.

Belmont, N.C. (June 30, 2025) 鈥 海角社在线 is pleased to announce the expansion of its Master of Business Administration (MBA) program with the addition of five new concentrations, which include Artificial Intelligence, Business Analytics, Cybersecurity, Finance, and Healthcare Administration.

海角社在线鈥檚 MBA program delivers a comprehensive, ethics-rooted business education that prepares students to succeed in today鈥檚 competitive job market. With the addition of these new concentrations, students can develop expertise in high-demand fields within the evolving digital landscape, further enhancing their career prospects.

Students who choose the Artificial Intelligence (AI) concentration will gain a deep understanding of AI principles and applications. Through hands-on learning, they鈥檒l explore how to harness AI to drive innovation and enhance business operations across sectors like technology, healthcare, and finance.

With the Business Analytics track, students develop the expertise to analyze large and complex data sets, uncover insights, and make data-driven decisions. This skillset is invaluable to organizations seeking to solve strategic challenges and improve performance.

Pursuing the Cybersecurity concentration will allow students to gain the tools to defend organizations against cyber threats and implement risk-mitigation strategies. As cyberattacks become more frequent and sophisticated, the demand for skilled cybersecurity professionals continues to rise.

The Finance concentration builds a solid foundation in areas such as financial management, investment analysis, and risk evaluation. This prepares graduates for impactful roles in corporate finance, investment banking, and consulting.

Finally, the Healthcare Administration concentration helps students examine the complexities of healthcare systems, policies, and management. This program prepares them to lead and innovate in healthcare organizations facing evolving challenges and opportunities.

Announcement of Interim President

The Board of Trustees of 海角社在线 is pleased to announce the appointment of alumnus Dr. Joseph Wysocki as Interim President effective August 3, 2025.

Our current Provost, and a seasoned leader and faithful steward of Catholic higher education, Dr. Wysocki brings to this role a deep commitment to our mission of forming students in mind, body, and spirit in the Benedictine/Liberal Arts/Catholic intellectual tradition. With a proven record of academic leadership and dedication to the values that shape our community, he will provide steady and thoughtful guidance during this period of transition.

Dr. Bill Thierfelder, who has served as president of 海角社在线 since 2004, announced his retirement earlier this year. He will officially step down on August 2, marking the conclusion of his 21-year tenure. The Board of Directors launched a national search for his successor earlier this summer. In the interim, Dr. Wysocki will serve as acting president until a new leader is appointed.

We ask our entire college community to keep Dr. Wysocki in your prayers as we embark on this new chapter in our shared journey.

Productivity or Fruitfulness?

With summer well underway, I know many people are already heading off on long awaited vacations – to the beach or the mountains, for cruises or family gatherings. Our Abbey campus is no different, with faculty and staff taking advantage of the comparative quiet to book travels or simply enjoy a few long weekends before classes begin again in August. But as we look forward to our various summer adventures, the prospect has made me think not just about work and leisure but more particularly about the difference between fruitfulness and productivity.

I suspect this is something many of us struggle with. In our work-oriented culture, we鈥檝e been trained to believe that if we鈥檙e not producing something or bringing about immediately tangible results, we鈥檙e not doing enough. We need to accomplish some number of concrete objectives before we feel that we鈥檝e justified our time. But the busier we are, the harder it is to make time for anything “unproductive”鈥 and when we do block off a week for vacation, it can take days to reset and actually embrace the opportunity to rest.

Certainly productivity is important in the exercise of our day-to-day lives. It鈥檚 good to complete tasks and to seek to do so well: whether cooking a family dinner or drafting an email to a colleague, creating a spreadsheet or mowing the lawn, paying the electric bill or finishing a homework assignment. These are among the means by which we respond faithfully to our states in life – the places and circumstances through聽which God calls us in small and large ways.

But while visible productivity can be an encouraging gift, it can also be tempting to view such periods with a kind of complacency that attributes the good to our own efforts. When we can鈥檛 see the concrete result of these efforts, we鈥檙e being invited to turn to God and affirm the essential reality that all true fruit comes by His grace.

Ultimately, the Benedictine emphasis on ora et labora, prayer and work, reminds us that, as important as faithful effort is, it鈥檚 only half (and the secondary half) of the equation鈥 and we are so much more than the sum of our productivity. We are made to love and serve, part of which is resting in conversation and in silence with the beloved.

During those periods when聽even making time for prayer – with so many things going on in our lives and work – is an act of trust, try to remember that聽placing ourselves in God鈥檚 presence, even for a moment, may not 鈥減roduce鈥 anything concrete, but by His grace it always bears eternal fruit.

No matter how much you make聽or how far you fall short of your own aspirations鈥 you are deeply, eternally loved. And the God who loves you will always bring about true fruitfulness in the life that seeks Him. In the end, He鈥檚 the only one who can.

All will be well.
