The story of Sister Katharine Drexel is an incredible one. Most people connected to º£½ÇÉçÔÚÏß know her as the donor that made the construction of the campus basilica possible. What’s perhaps not as well-known is that Sister Katharine came from an incredibly wealthy family and she abandoned a life of wealth for a life of philanthropy. Sister Katharine devoted her life to opening and operating almost 60 schools and missions throughout the western and southwestern United States. These institutions served the impoverished African American and Native American populations of the United States. Among Sister Katharine’s many contributions is the impact she had on tax codes, which ultimately changed the structure of philanthropy in America.
