Here at the Abbey, we show thanks for God鈥檚 gifts in a unique way 鈥 and you can actually hear it!
鈥淚 would maintain that thanks are the highest form of thought, and that gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder.鈥 鈥 G.K. Chesterton
A central fixture of our campus is the aptly named Gratitude Bell, 鈥淗oly Name.鈥 Everyday from noon to three, members of our campus community gather to pray the Angelus and ring the Gratitude Bell to express their gratefulness to God.
Ringing the bell fills our campus with the sweet, spiritual sounds of thanksgiving. Our students have a way to express our mission of embracing and instilling the habit of excellence and virtue in all that we do, especially the virtue of gratitude.
When we first dedicated the Gratitude Bell in 2016, we hoped it would serve as a 鈥渂ell wether鈥 towards finding greater appreciation for the infinite gifts God has given us, no matter how big or small. Since then, it鈥檚 been rung countless times and become a beloved tradition at the Abbey!
Today, the virtue of gratitude has become especially important during these times of less. We hope the mission of our Gratitude Bell continues to serve as an inspiration to find new ways to put showing thanks for our blessings at the forefront of our lives.
